Cosmopolitan, sophisticated and charming sum up Melbourne's Character. It is Australia's second largest city and is known as the Garden city of the South. Situated on the Yarra River, Melbourne has a convenient grid system of streets making it easy to find your way around. Broad tree lined streets have elegant Victorian buildings in amongst the modern office towers.

Fitzroy Gardens, Captain Cook's Cottage:
Captain James Cook discovered the east coast of Australia in the 18th Century. In Fitzroy Gardens, a small stone cottage that belonged to Cook's parents now takes pride of place. The cottage was moved from Yorkshire in England to Melbourne in 1934 to commemorate the city's first hundred years. Melburnian, Sir Russell Grimwade, paid for the relocation of the cottage as a gift to Melbourne.

Flinders Street Station:
This is the main railway station of Melbourne. Built in 1905, the French Renaissance style building has a huge copper dome and a large number of clocks. A favourite meeting place is "under the clocks at Flinders Street Station".
Still in use, this Melbourne landmark is on the corner of Flinders and Swanston Streets in the city.
